Supreme Court refuses to ban firecrackers this Diwali
However, it ordered the Centre to publicise the dangers of fireworks from October 31 to November 12.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to ban firecrackers during Diwali this year, saying it could be dangerous to infringe on the common man’s right to enjoy religious festivities, reported The Hindu.
However, the bench comprising Chief Justice HL Dattu and Justice Arun Kumar maintained an earlier decision that crackers could not be burst between 10 pm and 6 am, while addressing a petition filed by three children that had called for a blanket ban on fireworks. The petition stressed on their right to a pollution-free environment and pointed out the alarming levels of air and noise pollution in cities like Delhi.
The bench also made it mandatory for the government to publicise the dangers firecrackers pose, between October 31 and November 12.
