After the massive win of the Mahagathbandhan, or Grand Alliance, in the Bihar polls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Sunday that a similar alliance would be possible in his state as well. According to PTI, his comment came a day after Uttar Pradesh minister Fareed Mahfooz Kidwai suggested an alliance between Yadav’s ruling Samajwadi Party and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party for the Assembly elections in 2017.

Yadav said, “We will contest the 2017 Assembly polls on the plank of development as we have ensured progress in every nook and corner of the state.” There has been no reaction to Yadav’s comments from the BSP yet. The Mahagathbandhan in Bihar comprised Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and the Congress. The alliance won 178 seats of the state’s 243-member house, while the Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Democratic Alliance won 58 seats in total.
