Trade and terror the subjects of Modi's meeting with Malaysia PM
On the third day of his visit to the country for the ASEAN summit, the Indian leader met Najib Razak for bilateral talks.
Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak at Putrajaya on Monday, with trade and terrorism dominating the conversation. Modi thanked them for hosting him in the midst of the Association of South East Asian Nations and East Asia summits, and lauded their spirit in the face of two back-to-back airline tragedies, reported NDTV. He also announced a grant of $1 million to the India-students Trust Fund for financial assistance to Malay-Indian students.
The two leaders also discussed greater defence cooperation and ways to combat terrorism. India has very dynamic and strong defence industry, Razak said, adding that the meeting was very productive and constructive. Modi also claimed that to make conducting business easier, corporate rules are being made easier and corruption is being eliminated at all levels in the country.
The two prime ministers inaugurated the Torana Gate in Kuala Lampur's Little India, a suburb called Brickfields. The carved gateway was built at a cost of over $1 million.
