AAP MLA Sarita Singh booked for misbehaving with police official
The legislator has refuted the allegations and claimed that the police officer had abused her first.
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sarita Singh was booked on Sunday for allegedly misbehaving with a police official in northeast Delhi’s Rohtash Nagar area. Singh’s driver allegedly hit the police official’s motorbike while reversing the car, a charge she has denied. The police claimed that assistant sub-inspector Om Pal had to jump off the bike to save himself from getting injured, reported PTI. An argument broke out between the driver and the officer, during which the MLA allegedly abused Pal. The incident was recorded and went viral on social media.
“An FIR has been registered under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 279 (rash driving) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and investigation is underway,” said DCP (Northeast) Veenu Bansal.
The legislator, however, alleged that it was the officer who abused her first, leading to the altercation. “I will go to Bhajanpura Police station and lodge a complaint. I shall also meet senior officials and take up the matter with them,” Singh said. Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Satish Upadhyay was quick to lash out, saying Aam Aadmi Party legislators think everything in Delhi is in their hands.
