Aam Aadmi Party supporters protested outside the house of Bharatiya Janata Party legislator OP Sharma on Wednesday, raising slogans against his sexist jibe at AAP MLA Alka Lamba. Sharma has been suspended from the Delhi Assembly till Thursday, though protesters demanded that the ban be extended to the entire winter session, reported PTI. Sharma is one of the three BJP lawmakers in the Assembly, while the AAP has 67 seats. The BJP leader has not extended an apology so far, saying he was merely defending himself from Lamba's baseless charges.

During a debate about homeless people and night shelters in the city, Sharma had allegedly said, “Ye toh raat bhar ghumne wali hai (She roams around all night)”, referring to Lamba. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his shock at the comments and hoped that the BJP would take action against Sharma. "Am shocked at language used by O P Sharma, BJP MLA, against a lady lawmaker. 2 days back also, he abused a lady MLA. Hope BJP will act against him (sic)," he tweeted.
