Haryana CM orders inquiry after clashes erupt over trucks supposedly carrying beef
Several people were injured in the district of Palwal as police intervened and fired tear gas, though the trucks were allowed to continue on their journey after the scuffle.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday ordered an inquiry after clashes erupted over three trucks that were supposedly carrying beef, leaving several people injured. PTI reported that the dispute took place at Palwal on Thursday, and that police officials who intervened were also assaulted. Police reportedly fired teargas shells to manage the crowd as a last resort.
Superintendent of Police, Mitesh Jain, said that the situation is now normal. The Indian Express reported that local Congress MLA Karan Singh Dalal said the mob demanded that a case be registered against the police personnel “who let the two trucks get away”. The chief minister has said that those found guilty of the violence “will not be spared”.
