At least one person was killed and two others injured when a local Electric Multiple Unit train collided with the Lokmanya Tilak Expess in the Palwal district of Haryana on Tuesday. The New Indian Express reported that the EMU train hit the express train, which had stopped on the same tracks, from behind after failing to see it through dense fog.

Northern Railway spokesperson Neeraj Sharma said that the driver of the Palwal-Ghaziabad EMU was killed, while the assistant driver of the train and guard of the express train were injured in the mishap.

Railway officials began rescue and relief work, while the injured were sent to hospitals in Palwal and Faridabad. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is said to have spoken to the Palwal deputy commissioner about the rescue efforts.

The mishap hit traffic on the route, disrupting the movement of about 15 trains, reported PTI. The general manager of Northern Railway, AK Puthia, along with senior railway officials, have rushed to the spot and are monitoring the situation.
