The Uttarakhand Police on Tuesday issued a high alert in the state on the occasion of Republic Day, after receiving information of the movement of "some suspects" in Dehradun, ANI reported. Uttarakhand Director General of Police BS Sidhu said that one of the suspects was spotted in Dehradun late on Monday night.

Sidhu said, "On this occasion [of Republic Day], we don't want to take any chances with the security arrangement in the state. We had inputs of movement of some suspects in the state, [and] have issued an alert. We have also circulated an image of a suspect." He added that the police had received the information through a video clipping, but refused to share the source of the footage.

The police said they received the tip-off via a video clip, but did not disclose the source of the footage. Department officials told Hindustan Times that either a shopkeeper or a resident who installed CCTV cameras in their premises gave the video to the police.

Earlier this month, four youths suspected of having links with terror outfits were arrested from Roorkee. They were allegedly planning to launch attacks on the Ardh Kumbh Mela and its surrounding areas.

In another development, an alert was sounded in Orissa as well, after four men claiming to be Iraqi nationals checked into a hotel late on Monday, but fled when asked to produce identity proofs. They came to a hotel in Bhubaneshwar in a car with a Delhi registration number, which was later proved to be fake. A Special Task Force is investigating the matter, reported PTI.
