Two days after posters appeared in Delhi calling for Jawaharlal Nehru Union students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar to be murdered, the Delhi Police by Sunday had taken action: they have registered a first information report for the defacement of property.

The posters, which were sighted on Friday, the day after Kumar was granted bail in the sedition case for which was he arrested more than a fortnight ago. The posters, in Hindi, read: “The person who shoots JNU students’ union president and national traitor Kanhaiya will be awarded Rs 11 lakh.”

They were is signed by “Adarsh Sharma, son of Purvanchal, President, Poorvanchal Sena” and includes his phone number.

Ved Bhushan, ACP of the Parliament Street Police Station, told Scroll.in that further charges might be applied against Adarsh Sharma after further investigation.

Sharma told The Indian Express that he was angered by videos of Kumar’s speeches. “Initially, I was supporting Kumar as I thought he was falsely implicated by the police, but I was shocked after hearing his speech," he said. "He wants partition and was attacking our motherland, which is totally unacceptable.”

Forensic analysis has, however, proved that the videos of Kumar's speech containing slogans that are alleged to be anti-nationl were actually doctored. As a result, the Delhi Police told the Delhi High Court last week that they have no video evidence of Kumar shouting slogans.
