RJD legislator accused of rape surrenders
Raj Ballabh Yadav had been on the run for weeks and was suspended from the party after a 15-year-old girl accused him of sexually assaulting her.
Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator Raj Ballabh Yadav on Thursday reportedly surrendered in the Bihar Sharif court in connection with a rape case lodged against him by a minor girl. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. The 15-year-old girl had told the police that Nawada MLA had raped her at his home on February 6, after she was taken there by her neighbour and two other women. Yadav had been on the run since the case was filed by the girl's father on February 9.
The RJD had already suspended Yadav from the party, while the police seized his property. On February 20, a Bihar court had denied Yadav anticipatory bail in the case. Thirteen of his bank accounts were also frozen.
