The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Sunday suspended its legislator Raj Ballabh Yadav, who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl. The party also served a notice to the legislator to explain his position, RJD state president Ram Chandra Purbe told PTI. The police had issued an arrest order against Yadav on Saturday after the girl gave her statement to police.

In her complaint, the girl said that the RJD leader raped her on February 6 after a woman abducted her. She identified Yadav's home as the scene of crime, but his supporters reportedly prevented a police team from collecting evidence from the house. The girl also said that she was given Rs 30,000 to not report the incident to he police.

The RJD currently holds a majority in the Bihar assembly after state elections took place last year. The state is already facing accusations of falling to “jungle raj”, after the murder of two Bharatiya Janata Party leaders there on Friday.
