Hrithik Roshan's wisecrack about the pope earns him a legal notice
The actor has been accused of hurting the feelings of Christians for his remarks about the religious head.
Hrithik Roshan’s troubles just don’t end. The actor has been hit with a legal notice by Abraham Mathai, the former Vice-Chairman of the States Minorities Commission, for his remarks suggesting that he would have rather have an affair with the pope than any of his female co-stars. The notice, filed under Section 295A, accuses the brawny actor of trying to outrage the religious feelings and beliefs of the Christian community.
The remark about the pope was Roshan’s initial public reaction to an interview by his former girlfriend, Kangana Ranaut, in which the actress said a “silly ex” was giving her trouble and causing her to lose roles. Even though he wasn’t named in the interview, Roshan lashed out through his Twitter account, saying, “Ther r more chances of me having had an affair with d Pope dan any of d (Im sure wonderful) women d media hs been naming.”
Roshan sent Ranaut a legal notice for her remarks, following which she filed a counter notice accusing him of harassment and stalking.
It’s now Abraham’s turn to draw Roshan into a legal battle. “Hrithik Roshan has the right to have a relationship with anyone, but he doesn’t have the right to draw in the pope,” Mathai told Scroll.in. “This has unfortunate inferences – it suggests that the pope is gay. I’ve asked Roshan for an unconditional apology. It hurts the Catholic community for whom the pope is a revered personality.”
