Delhi Daredevils defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Saturday to record their fourth victory in the 2016 Indian Premier League. After scoring 186/8, they bowled the Knight Riders out for 159.
Delhi Daredevils lost their openers in the very first over and looked set for an underwhelming total. Karun Nair (68 off 50 balls) and Sam Billings (54 off 34 balls) put on a 105-run stand to drag them out of the woods. The hero of the World Twenty20 final, Carlos Brathwaite showed off his skills, hammering 34 in 11 balls to take the Daredevils to a formidable 186/8 in their 20 overs. Andre Russell and Umesh Yadav impressed for the Knight Riders with figures of 3/26 and 3/33 respectively.
The Knight Riders lost captain Gautam Gambhir and Piyush Chawla (sent up the order to pinch-hit) early and stumbled to 43/2 in the first six overs. Robin Uthappa tried to steady the innings and took Kolkata close with his 72 off 52 balls but wickets fell at regular intervals. Kolkata finished 27 runs short of Delhi's total and crashed to their second defeat in two days.
