Twenty-one-year-old Vinesh Phogat and 23-year-old Sakshi Malik have clinched qualifying slots in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after securing spots in the finals of the 48 kg and the 58 kg freestyle women's wrestling categories respectively. Phogat went on to win the gold while Malik won silver in the finals. The second Olympic Games World Qualifying Tournament was held in Istanbul on Saturday.

Phogat had a fine run, clinching all her victories by technical fall out and winning 6-0 in the final against Poland's Iwona Matkowska . Malik's semi-final clash was much more tightly contested – it ended 10-10, but Malik ultimately aced it. Unfortunately, she went down 7-3 in the final against Valeria Zhoblova.

Phogat and Malik joined Yogeshwar Dutt, Narsingh Yadav, Sandeep Tomar and Hardeep Singh who have already clinched qualifying places in the tournament.
