French Open: Leander Paes and Martina Hingis win mixed doubles title
Paes and Hingis defeated Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig 4-6 6-4 10-8 in the final.
Leeander Paes completed his Career Slam in mixed doubles, teaming up with Martina Hingis to defeat Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig in the final of the 2016 French Open. This was Paes' tenth mixed doubles Grand Slam title.
Mirza and Dodig won the first set 6-4, but Paes and Hingis came back to take the second set 6-4 and take the game into the tie-breaker. In the tie-breaker, the 41-year-old Indian made some amazing interceptions at the net to win it 10-8 to take the title.
Defending champion Stan Wawrinka was eliminated from the tournament in the men's singles after Andy Murray defeated him in four sets in the semi-final. Wawrinka was unable to replicate the form he showed in last year's final against Djokvoic as Murray put up an impressive show, defeating him 6-4 6-2 4-6 6-2.
In contrast, World No 1 Novak Djokovic breezed through his semi-final clash with Dominic Thiem, defeating the Austrian in straight sets 6-2 6-1 6-4. Djokovic will play Murray and hope to get his hands on the French Open trophy, the one title he has never won in his glorious career.
In the women's singles draw, Serena Williams shook off a strong challenge from unseeded Kiki Bertens to clinch a place in the finals. Bertens looked good in the first set and took it to a tie-breaker, but Williams held firm to win 7-6 (7), 6-4. Wiliams will play fourth-seeded Garbine Muguruza in the finals, who defeated Samantha Stosur 6-2 6-4.
