A Delhi court on Thursday directed the state Election Commission to provide Textile Minister Smriti Irani’s educational qualification records, after a complaint was filed against her for allegedly giving false information to the poll monitoring body. The complainant said Irani’s affidavits filed in 2004 – when she stood for election from Chandni Chowk – mentioned she was a graduate, but that original documents regarding her qualifications could not be traced, PTI reported.

A Delhi Election Commission official reportedly told the court he could not provide the documents immediately, but that the information was available on the commission website. Metropolitan Magistrate Harvinder Singh fixed the date of the next hearing for July 23.

In November last year, a court had allowed a plea seeking Irani’s educational qualification records since they were not traceable.
