India had a strong first day to their tour of the West Indies, racking up 302/4 in 90 overs after choosing to bat first. Shikhar Dhawan scored 84 while Virat Kohli was unbeaten, batting on 143.

The key moment in the day was the partnership between Kohli and Dhawan, who came together with the score at 74/2. They put on a partnership of 105 before Dhawan was adjudged leg-before-wicket to leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, just 16 runs short of his century.

Bishoo proved to be the standout bowler on the first day, also accounting for Ajinkya Rahane, who made just 22. However, Ravichandran Ashwin, sent in ahead of Wriddhiman Saha, provided Kohli support to ensure India finished the first day in a position of strength. Kohli also crossed the 3,000-run mark during his innings.
