Medical Council of India reduces MBBS seats in Odisha
From 1,100 seats for medical courses last academic session, the state will have 1,000 seats this year.
The Medical Council of India has reduced MBBS seats in Odisha by 100, reported ANI. The statutory body slashed 250 seats in medical colleges in the state, and allowed two colleges to increase their intake capacity by 150.
From 1,100 seats in the state last academic session, Odisha will have 1,000 seats this year. The reduced seats are owed to Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital at Rourkela and the Sardar Rajas Medical College Hospital and Research Centre at Jaring in Kalahandi district, whose permissions to take students did not get renewed this year. Each of these colleges had 100 students last academic year. The MCI has asked the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhubaneswar not to increase their seats from 100 to 150.
The Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, has been given permission to increase their seats from 100 to 150. MKCG Medical College in Berhampur will take 100 more students this year.
