Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday appointed a three-member panel to study more than 400 documents submitted by the Aam Aadmi Party government in the last one-and-a-half years, particularly those containing “infirmities and irregularities”. Jung said the committee will look into inclusions and any omissions or exclusions in the documents and determine who is to held accountable in any cases of civil and criminal liability, if there are any.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of interfering in the state government’s affairs. Kejriwal tweeted saying, “Today, several officers transferred by lieutenant governor directly. Files not even shown to CM or any minister. Is this Modi model of democracy?”

In a dispute between the lieutenant governor and chief minister, the Delhi High Court had earlier this month ruled in favour of Jung by affirming that he was the administrative head of the capital. The AAP government has been campaigning for statehood since it was elected to power. The High Court also called the AAP government’s decision to investigate irregularities in Delhi and District and Cricket Association and the Compressed Natural Gas scam illegal.
