Philippines: At least 10 killed, dozens injured in night market explosion in Davao city
A spokesperson for the police said they believed the blast was caused by a bomb, and fire trucks and ambulances are at the location.
At least 10 civilians were killed and dozens injured on Friday in an explosion in Davao city, Philippines, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said. The police said at least 30 people were taken to a hospital after the blast in Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte's home city, Reuters reported.
The attack took place at a night market in Roxas Avenue around 11 pm (local time). Fire trucks and ambulances are at the location, but authorities have not been able to confirm the number of casualties, according to CNN. It is unclear what caused the blast, but witnesses said the explosion was heard from a massage area in the middle of the street.
A spokesperson for the city police, Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, told DPA news agency that they believed the blast was caused by a bomb, according to Al Jazeera. "Our explosive ordnance team is already in the area to confirm the cause of the blast," she said.
