The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued an advisory deterring fliers from checking in a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone on flights, after one such handset caught fire during an IndiGo flight on Friday. The aviation regulator’s advisory asked people to carry the phone on their person, but not switch it on or charge it during the flight. Indian airline companies tweeted to the effect on Saturday.

The DGCA had issued a similar notice about Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 phone on September 9 after it was reported worldwide that several of the handsets were catching fire. On September 2, Samsung announced the global recall of the model following reports that some handsets had exploded because of defective batteries.
