Cricket: Opener Gautam Gambhir called up to India squad for next two Tests against New Zealand
The opener replaces the injured KL Rahul, while uncapped off-spinner Jayant Yadav has been called up in place of pacer Ishant Sharma.
Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was called up to the India squad for the next two Tests in the ongoing series against New Zealand, replacing the injured KL Rahul. The Board of Control for Cricket in India made the announcement in an advisory on Tuesday.
Pacer Ishant Sharma will also miss the next Test match in Kolkata with uncapped off-spinner Jayant Yadav being named his replacement. The second Test begins on September 30.
Gambhir last played a Test match for India in August 2014. He was in good form recently in the domestic Duleep Trophy tournament where he scored 356 runs in five innings at an average of 71.20.
