Two passengers were injured when 10 coaches of the Jhelum Express derailed between Jalandhar and Ludhiana in Punjab on Tuesday morning. Divisional Railway Manager, Ferozepur, Anuj Prakash told PTI that the train, which connects Pune and Jammu Tawi, went off the tracks near Phillaur town, about 125 km from Chandigarh, at around 3 am. However, the cause of the accident is unknown.

The injured have been sent to Ludhiana Civil Hospital, said the Ministry of Railways. Additional Director General of Railways Anil Saxena said efforts were on to ensure that passengers continue with their journey, while rescue operations were under way. "Senior officials, medical and relief teams have reached the accident site," he added.

The derailment has affected traffic on both sides. Four trains – Jalandhar-New Delhi Intercity, Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity, Amritsar-Haridwar Janshatabdi and Amritsar-Chandigarh Superfast – have been cancelled and some other trains have been diverted.
