A First Information Report has been filed against Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant for wearing a dress with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on it, PTI reported. The FIR was lodged at the Kankroli police station in Rajasthan for "allegedly indulging in obscenity and defaming the PM."

The station house officer at the Kankroli police station, Laxman Ram, said, "On the basis of the photos circulated on social media, a local advocate Prajeet Tiwari had lodged the complaint yesterday." He said the complainant had alleged that Sawant had “insulted the PM by wearing a dress with pictures of the PM in August". Ram said the police was investigating the matter. The complaint was lodged under various sections of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Sawant wore the dress in question in August. She had generated a great deal of interest when she made the images of her in the dress public, leaving many on Twitter amused, and others uncomfortable. She had then clarified that she had put the pictures up only after getting permission from the Bharatiya Janata Party and its president Amit Shah. A Meerut-based NGO, Progressive Women Welfare Society, had also filed a petition against Sawant for wearing the outfit.
