Cricket: Indian openers fight back on Day Two after England post 537
India were once again sloppy on the field, but a solid batting display by Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir helped them at the close of play.
The Indian team started on a positive note on Thursday as Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir took the hosts to 63/0. England had finished Day Two of the first Test at Rajkot after posting a massive score of 537. Vijay and Gambhir played out 23 overs and looked good on a wicket that has largely favoured the batsmen. The India team is still 474 runs behind England.
The team were, however, sloppy on the field and dropped two catches after putting down three on the first day. Moeen Ali (117) completed his century after being stranded on 99 at the end of Day One. Ben Stokes (128) carried on the good work put in by England and scored a belligerent ton to take the visitors past the 500-run mark.
