Kejriwal says Delhi police 'most corrupt' under Modi, citing survey
A third of the 1,501 Delhi households surveyed reported having paid a bribe in the last year.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday once again attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking for administrative control of the state police and Anti Corruption Bureau. Citing a new corruption survey in the capital, Kejriwal tweeted that the Delhi Police was "most corrupt" under Modi and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. On Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party chief had criticised Modi and Jung about their seeming lack of control over the Delhi Police, following three incidents of minor girls being raped in the capital this month.
The survey by CMS Transparency estimated that the average Delhi household paid a bribe of Rs 2,500 in the last 12 months, with the total amount being Rs 239 crore. A third of the 1,501 Delhi households surveyed reported having paid a bribe in the same period. Almost half of the people polled reported that graft had decreased in the last year, after the Aam Aadmi Party came into power. The responses indicated that corruption in LPG distribution had increased the most, while the police would most likely ask for a bribe in matters involving public service.
