Odisha to get India’s 1st Skill Training Centre
- Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone of India’s first National Skill Training Institute (NSTI).
- The proposed institute will impart training to trainers in order to create a skill-based ecosystem that will meet industry demands.
- The main focus of the NSTI is to cater to the training needs of the youth with industry-relevant skills.
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar launches ‘Paudhagiri’ campaign to make Haryana Green
- Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched a unique programme, the Paudhagiri campaign, to increase the green cover in Haryana.
- Under the campaign, 22 lakh students from class 6 to 12 from government and private schools in Haryana will each plant a sapling during the three months of the monsoon.
- CM Khattar launched the campaign by planting a maulsari sapling at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Gurgaon.
Committee set up to synergise NCC and NSS
- The government has decided to set up a committee to suggest measures to strengthen National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS).
- The committee will be chaired by former Secretary of School Education, Anil Swarup, and have representations from the NCC, Youth Affairs, and the Ministry of HRD.
- The Committee will recommend ways for the NCC and NSS to work together, so that they can empower youth.
Steel CPSE Employees Pension Scheme Announced
- The Ministry of Steel has agreed to the proposal by various CPSEs for an employee pension scheme.
- The pension scheme will be effective from January 1st, 2007 in the case of executives, and from January 1st, 2012 in the case of non-executives.
- The scheme is expected to benefit more than 94,000 serving and 56,000 retired employees of CPSEs under the Ministry of Steel.
BEL and Saab sign MoU for surveillance radar
- Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with Sweden’s Saab for marketing the L-Band 3D Air Surveillance Radar, RAWL-03, which is developed jointly by BEL and Saab.
- The Long Range Air Surveillance Radar is a cost-effective L-Band three dimensional (3D) radar.
- It can be used for early detection and tracking of air and surface targets, which will assist in engagement of fire control systems to neutralise them.
- The system is based on the state-of-the-art GaN TR Module technology and incorporates the latest Signal Processing techniques.
- It will be offered in both ship-borne and land-based configurations.
PV Sindhu comes second at Thailand Open 2018
- Indian shuttler PV Sindhu lost to fourth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the finals of the Thailand Open World Tour Super 500, at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.
- Sindhu had to settle for second place after she lost in straight sets, 21-15 21-18, in just 50 minutes.
- This was Sindhu’s third loss in a final this year, after her defeats at the India Open and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat clinches gold at Spanish Grand Prix tournament
- India’s Vinesh Phogat clinched the gold medal at the Spanish Grand Prix wrestling tournament in Madrid.
- She defeated Canada’s Natasha Fox 10-0 in the final of the women’s 50kg freestyle category.
