NITI Aayog and MyGov launch “Innovate India Platform” as part of Atal Innovation Mission
- The Innovate India portal will serve as the common point for all the innovation happening across the nation.
- Innovate India is an innovations platform for registering both grassroots and deep-tech innovators at a national level.
- The Innovate India platform is open to all Indian citizens, who can view, comment, share, and rate the innovations on the platform.
- MyGov is a citizen centric platform of the Government of India.
KTDC launches country’s first state-run all-woman hotel
- India’s first public sector hotel, run entirely by women for women, was launched by Kerala Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran.
- The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) hotel is named Hostess.
- It will come up in six months at the KTDC complex at the main bus station in the heart of the city.
- The KTDC’s aim is to create top class facilities for visitors, with security features and facilities of global standards at affordable rates.
Vodafone-Idea merger gets final Govt approval
- The Union Government has given its final approval for the mega merger of Vodafone and Idea Cellular.
- This will create the country’s largest mobile operator, with 35% market share and around 430 million subscribers.
- The parties will now approach the Registrar of Companies (RoC) for stipulated filings for approval.
India celebrates 19th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas
- President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and PM Narendra Modi led the nation in paying homage to the martyrs of Kargil on 19th Kargil Vijay Diwas.
- Kargil Vijay Diwas is held on July 26th every year.
- The day marks the victory of the Indian forces over Pakistan in the hills of Kargil and the success of India’s Operation Vijay in 1999.
West Bengal Assembly passes resolution to rename state ‘Bangla’
- The West Bengal Assembly has passed a resolution to change the name of the state to ‘Bangla’ in three languages: Bengali, English and Hindi.
- Education Minister Partha Chatterjee moved the resolution which was unanimously passed.
- In August 2016, the Assembly had passed a resolution to change the name to ‘Bengal’ in English, ‘Bangla’ in Bengali, and ‘Bangal’ in Hindi, but the Centre turned it down.
