Odisha: More than 1.8 million affected by floods
Floods triggered by heavy rainfall in the past week in Odisha have killed 34 people and affected approximately 1.8 million people. According to IANS, eight more deaths were reported from 24 of the state’s 30 districts. Despite the rapidly improving situation, water levels in the Mahanadi, Devi and Baitarani rivers are still flowing above the danger mark at some places.
Tripura: Grain from Andhra Pradesh arrives in Tripura via Bangladesh
In a show of inter-country cooperation, a food grain consignment from Andhra Pradesh has reached the north-eastern state of Tripura via Bangladesh for the very first time. According to reports in ANI, three trucks carrying 51 tonnes of rice entered Tripura on Thursday. Transporting goods through Bangladesh provides the opportunity to avoid a long, mountainous road trip through Assam and Meghalaya.

Former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jaswant Singh’s condition is critical after the politician suffering a head injury at his residence in New Delhi on Friday. "He is on life support systems and under constant monitoring by a team of neurosurgeons and critical care providers," a statement from the defence ministry said.
Punjab: Supreme Court orders both parties in SGPC row to maintain status quo
The apex court on Thursday directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and its rival, Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Committee to maintain status quo in the administration of all gurdawaras till further orders. The order was passed after the Haryana government submitted that the HSGMC has taken control of six or seven of the state's 52 gurudwaras. But the SGPC contended that its rival has taken over just one shrine. The bench also ordered the state government to ensure law and order.
Karnataka: Auto rickshaw driver hacks daughter’s lover, dumps body at police station
Policemen at the KR Puram police station in Bangalore were shocked on Thursday when a man dumped a gunny bag, with a body inside, at their doorstep. According to reports in The Hindu, the man confessed that he murdered the deceased. The victim, aged 26, was killed because of his alleged relationship with the accused’s 14-year-old daughter.
