The Mars Orbiter Mission reached its destination early Wednesday morning. The orbiter, which could not be seen from Earth at the time of its insertion, confirmed its arrival at 7.54 am. Soon after, it fired its camera and got to work.
MOM transmitted its first photographs of Mars to the Indian Space Research Centre on Wednesday, but the centre released it on social media only at 11.30 am on Thursday.
The first image MOM took in space is this shot of the Indian subcontinent, taken on November 13, only a week after its launch, when it was testing its payload for the first time.
And to compare, here is Chandrayaan-I's first image of the Moon from November 2008.
