Identity of the gunman behind Parliament attack not yet confirmed
Canada’s Parliament came under attack on Wednesday from an unidentified gunman, who fired a barrage of gunshots both inside and outside the building. Before the attack on Parliament, the unidentified gunman had reportedly killed a soldier guarding the nearby National War Memorial. However, the authorities could not confirm whether the same perpetrator was involved in both incidents. Gun shots were heard outside the room in Parliament, where Prime Minister Steven Harper was addressing members of his Conservative Party.  Harper was safely evacuated from the premises, and the gunman was shot dead by Canadian police.

Shiv Sena says that it will support BJP in Maharashtra
After intense negotiations, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday agreed to lend its support to the Bharatiya Janata Party to form a coalition government in Maharashtra. "We have decided to offer support to the BJP," said senior Sena leader Subhash Desai. "We had fruitful initial discussions with the BJP leaders. We will now hold detailed discussions with the party from Monday to work out the details." The BJP won 122 of the 288 Maharashtra assembly constituencies, falling 22 seats short of a majority. The BJP's former alliance partner in the state, Shiv Sena, racked up a tally of 61 seats.

CBI files first chargesheet in Saradha scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday filed its first chargesheet in the West Bengal Saradha chit fund scam probe on Wednesday. Charges were filed against Sudipta Sen and Debjani Mukherjee, both directors of four group companies. Former Trinamool Congress parliamentarian Kunal Ghosh, a former chief executive officer in Sen’s media business, was also named as an accused. The group is alleged to have run a Ponzi scheme valued at Rs 200-Rs 300 billion. It collapsed in April last year.

Bureaucrats will not act on verbal orders from ministers, according to new PMO advisory
Bureaucrats in the central government will no longer act on their minister's directives unless written orders are issued by them, according to a new advisory from the Prime Minister's Office. In an earlier practice, ministers would get any work done by merely passing "oral" orders to government officials. In the recent past, ministers have often been reluctant to record their decisions due to the fear of negative press.

Police confirm sexual assault on minor girl in a Bangalore school
Bangalore police on Wednesday confirmed that a four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at a private school in the city. Many angry parents had gathered around the campus of Orchid International School on Wednesday, demanding answers from its authorities. Police questioned the school staff and examined the CCTV footage recorded from the school premises, though no suspect has been arrested yet.
