Cartoonists around India are paying tribute to RK Laxman in the way they know best. They are drawing cartoons in tribute to "Common Man" RK Laxman who died on Monday at the age of 94. Laxman started his career by illustrating the stories of his illustrious elder brother RK Narayan in The Hindu. After finishing college, he joined The Free Press Journal in Mumbai as a political cartoonist. He got a job at The Times of India in 1947 and four years later, he began to draw his tradmark "You Said It" cartoon featuring his Common Man, a silent spectator to the foibles of those in power.
"It is impossible to say how to become a cartoonist," he once said. "You have to be born with the gift, just as you cannot tell someone how to sing."
A few weeks before he died, Laxman sketched his last cartoon which the Indian Space Research Organisation tweeted out, "Tribute to a legend. #rklaxman sent this delightful gift to ISRO a couple of weeks back. His last cartoon was on Mangalyaan, the Mars Orbiter Mission."
