On Monday, 400 Sikh pilgrims from India gathered at the tomb of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, in the shadow of the imposing Lahore fort, to commemorate the 176th death anniversary of the founder of the Sikh empire.
The pilgrims had already been in Pakistan for a week. They had arrived by train at the Wagah border on June 22 and travelled to other Sikh shrines in Pakistan: the revered birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion, in Nankana Sahib, and the Gurudwara Punja Sahin in Hassanbad.
