ART Winter by Julian Opie At Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum
This exhibition comprises a set of 75 prints by British contemporary artist Julian Opie, who is known for his graphic style and use of technology in art. The prints show the French countryside, which Opie toured on a particularly pretty day. Tickets for Indians are priced at Rs 10 per head for adults and Rs 5 per head for children below the age of 13, and tickets for foreigners are priced at Rs 100 per head for adults and Rs 50 per head for children below the age of 13.

FILM ‘Unknown Territories: Radical Cinema 1963-2012’ at Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum
A package of short films from across the world put together by filmmaker Ashim Ahluwalia will be screened as part of the Bhau Daji Lad’s Movies at the Museum series of events. The shorts, which were made between 1963 and 2012, include those by American abstract artist Jordan Belson, Finnish video artist Mika Taanila, Iranian poet and director Forough Farrokhzad and Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook. MUSIC El_Txef_A at Cafe Nemo

 Tamas at the National Centre for the Performing Arts
The classic 1988 Hindi telefilm directed by Govind Nihalani and based on the novel by Bhisham Sahni, who also wrote the screenplay, will be screened on the occasion of the latter’s birth centenary, which falls on August 8. Starring Om Puri, Surekha Sikri, Deepa Sahi and Bhisham Sahni, Tamas follows the lives of two families caught in the outbreaks of communal violence during Partition. The screening is free.

WALKS Wandering In Worli – A Walk Down Worli Koliwada by Beyond Bombay

FILMThe River, The Forest and The Sea’ at Films Division
A screening of four short films. Lamp Post of the Ocean, a 12-minute black and white short produced by the Films Division in 1959, and Sagar Manav, a new 21-minute documentary by Tanumoy Bose, are about lighthouses and the caretaker of a lighthouse respectively. Jaadui Machchi, a 38-minute feature made by Ektara Collective, a group of filmmakers in Bhopal, is about a mythical fish that spreads happiness. All the actors in the 2014 film are from the local community in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. Sanjay Kak’s 40-minute documentary from 1999, In the Forest Hangs a Bridge is about an Arunachali tribe’s annual practice of building long cane and bamboo bridges. The screening is free. The film, in Kashmiri, centres around Anzar, a child who takes the aid of a stranger to pass an exam after his father chides him for his poor performance in school. MUSIC Symphony Orchestra of India presents Bird With Strings at NCPA Tata Theatre
The city-based ensemble will stage a concert blending Western classical music with jazz. During the second half, saxophonist Greg Banaszak from the US and Piotr Borkowski from Poland, will perform tracks from their album Bird with Strings Revisited. Borkowski is the current resident conductor of the SOI. The release comprised their recreations of songs from Charlie Parker with Strings, a set of recordings by legendary American saxophonist Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker on which he collaborated with a string orchestra. FILM Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! at the National Centre for the Performing Arts
In Saeed Mirza’s 1984 Hindi film starring Bhisham Sahni, Dina Pathak, Naseeruddin Shah, Satish Shah and Rohini Hattangady, an elderly couple sues their landlord for failing to repair the building in which they live. They hire a couple of lawyers, who turn out to be more interested in ripping their clients off than effectively fighting their case. The screening, which is part of the festival of events being organised to celebrate writer Bhisham Sahni’s birth centenary, is free.
