Almost 200 shopping stalls and over 40 food counters will make up the fifth edition of this shopping bazaar where you can browse and buy everything from tattoos and totes to trinkets. Bag makers Desi Drama Queen, Western clothing label Why So Blue, men’s fashion accessories brand Gentlemen’s Community, luggage sellers Boriya Basta and stationery supplier Le Papier are just some of the participants this time around. The food options will include desserts by Sugar Overdose, pizzas by The Playlist Pizzeria, sandwiches by Pack-a-Pav, artisanal cheese by Eleftheria and cold-pressed juice by Raw Pressery. Each day will also have music performances by the likes of Hindi rock band Ankur Tiwari and the Ghalat Family and electro-rock group Sky Rabbit. There is an entry fee of Rs 200 per head per day. The sixth edition of this annual rock music festival will feature a fair amount of other genres as well. THEATRE Going Solo at Sophia Bhabha Hall
The third edition of this festival of one-man shows will feature two performances. In Big Mouth, Belgian theatre actor Valentijn Dhaenens quotes from famous public speeches by historic figures such as Cicero, Goebbels and Malcolm X to demonstrate the sophistry of rhetoric (Friday, October 30 at 7 pm). In the Window by Irish comic actress Nuala McKeever is a monologue about lonely Margaret who is contemplating suicide but is interrupted by a string of people (Friday, October 30 at 9 pm). MUSIC Stay Uprooted featuring Niladri Kumar at Shanmukhananda Auditorium
Sitar and zitar (a self-invented electric sitar) player Niladri Kumar will perform with percussionist Taufiq Qureshi, tabla player Vijay Ghate, vocalist Rashid Ali, bassist Sheldon D’Silva and keyboardist Prince Mulla at this Indian classical-fusion concert, which has been organised in association with the NGO Vision Rescue. Twelve girls from the Vasai Orphanage will perform alongside Kumar and his band during the event, at which he will play his hundred-year-old sitar for the last time before it is auctioned for charity. ARTUnpacking the Studio: Celebrating the Jehangir Sabavala Bequest at the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation
This exhibition comprises the late artist’s paintings and personal articles such as diaries, sketchbooks and portfolios that were donated by his wife Shirin Sabavala to the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, which is housed inside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. The show, which has been curated by Ranjit Hoskote, places Jehangir Sabavala’s work in the context of his artistic inspirations, his education in Mumbai, London and Paris, and his practice among his peers from the 1930s to the 1950s. Tickets to enter the museum are priced at Rs 20 per head for children between the ages of five and 12,Rs 70 per head for Indians above the age of 12, and Rs 300 per head for foreigners above the age of 12; free entry for children below the age of five.
