TALKS International Symposium on ‘Literary Activism’ at India International Centre
Psychologist and cultural commentator Ashis Nandy, novelist and The Indian Express editor Raj Kamal Jha and Turner Prize-winning British artist Jeremy Deller will be among the speakers at this two-day symposium. Organised by the UEA Centre for the Creative and the Critical at Presidency University, a joint initiative by the Kolkata institute and the UK’s University of East Anglia, the symposium is the second in its "literary activism" series and will explore the subject of "de-professionalisation" and “the urge, as a creative practitioner, or, indeed, a practitioner of any kind, not to be identified with one genre or activity, and to be, in general, a critic of specialisation”. SHOPPING & STYLE Dastkari Haat Crafts Bazaar
The thirtieth edition of the annual bazaar will showcase traditional products from 170 craftspeople from across India. This year the bazaar will also feature items made by artisans from Myanmar such as woven mats, handloom textiles, Pathein umbrellas, velvet slippers and jade objects.

FILM Wangala ‒ A Garo Festival at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts
Bappa Ray’s National Award-winning 1992 documentary examines the lineage of the Garo people of Western Meghalaya, their worship of the Sun God, their practice of jhum or shifting cultivation, and their harvest festival Wangala, during which the young choose their partners. There is no entry fee; seating is on a first come, first served basis.

MUSIC Sound Reasons IV at India Habitat Centre
Bernd Schurer from Switzerland, Raul Keller from Estonia and Manuel Rocha Iturbide from Mexico are among the artists who will perform at the IHC amphitheatre, as part of the fourth edition of Sound Reasons, a "festival for sound art and contemporary electronic music". A sound installation by Danish Christian Skjødt will be on display at the Experimental Art Gallery concurrently.

PHOTOGRAPHY Origins: A Photographic Tale of Relations Between the UK and India at the British Council
This exhibition is the culmination of PhotoUK-India, a collaboration between the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts and the British Council to promote the work of photographers from both countries. The images, which also form part of a publication called Origins, bring together narrative-based photographs “about family formations, histories, travel, metropolitanism, journalism”.
