Social media platform Twitter experienced disruptions throughout Tuesday, with users across the world either unable to connect or having to contend with limited functionality.
For many in India, Twitter was offline after 1 pm. Visitors to the social network were greeted by an error message: “Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing – we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon." By 9 pm, it still wasn't fully functional for some people.
Twitter also acknowledged the problem through a tweet, in which the firm said it was aware of the problem. The site had gone down for a few minutes on Monday as well.
Twitter did not specify the cause of the disruption, how many of its users had been affected and the duration of the outage.
The outage caused inconvenience to many businesses dependent on the site for marketing campaigns and other communication. Many who had been unable to express themselves in 140 characters took to Facebook to vent their anger, while others waited till services were restored on Twitter to make their feelings known. But many had a humourous take on the situation and users bursting with jokes let loose when the network came back up.
