MUSIC TRAVEL The Lost Party at Salter Lake
This camping music festival being held by a lake near Lonavala will feature a number of supplementary activities such as indie film screenings, yoga sessions, laughing gas stalls and pillow fight arenas over all three days. Over 30 acts, including Austrian electronic music duo HVOB and electro-folk-fusion rock band Karsh Kale Soundsystem, will perform on Saturday and Sunday. THEATRE Chaarpaai at Sathaye College Auditorium
Written and directed by Arnesh Ghose, Chaarpaai is a suite of four stories in Hindi. Khol Do, adapted from Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto’s story of the same name, is about a man’s search for his daughter, who he was separated from during the violence of Partition. Pussy Riot centres on women writers who have been flayed for writing frankly on sexuality. Do Boond Roshni Ki hinges on the relationship between a eunuch and a prostitute. CULTURE Ballard Estate Festival
The south Mumbai business district of Ballard Estate will turn into an entertainment zone with food and shopping stalls and cultural shows every Saturday and Sunday until the end of May during this four month-long festival organised by the Mumbai Port Trust. This weekend, the events will include performances by Rajasthani folk singer Mame Khan, who will perform on Saturday, February 27 at 8 pm and folk-fusion rock band The Raghu Dixit Project, who will play the festival on Sunday, February 28 at 8 pm. Curated by gallerist Arshiya Lokhandwala, the exhibition features works of art produced after 1997, the fiftieth anniversary of Indian independence. MUSEUM EXHIBITION Tabiyat at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
Organised by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, the British Council and the Wellcome Collection UK, this exhibition of artworks and objects related to medical practice and health in the subcontinent is a capsule of Indian medical history. Most of the exhibits are from the Wellcome Collection, a museum in London run by the medical research charity Wellcome Trust. See here for details.
