WALKS Delhi Walk Festival
This ongoing festival offers participants the chance to explore the city’s food, heritage, nature, art, photography and architecture over 80 walks conducted by 30 specialists. MUSIC TALKS Musicophilia in Mumbai at the University of Chicago Center
Tejaswini Niranjana, co-founder of the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society in Bangalore, will speak about the evolution of Hindustani music in Bombay/Mumbai from the late nineteenth century to the 1960s. Her talk will be followed by a lecture-demonstration on ‘Four-Hand Piano Transcriptions in 19th Century Europe’ by University of Chicago faculty member Thomas Christensen. PHOTOGRAPHY Graciela Iturbide at Instituto Cervantes
The institute is displaying two exhibits of works by the renowned Mexican photographer: Naturatta and El Baño de Frida Kahlo (Frida’s Bathroom). The first is a series of images taken at the Botanical Garden of Oaxaca in 1998 and 1999; the second is on the bathroom of the artist Frida Kahlo. FILM Konkani Film Fest at India International Centre
At this event put together by city-based community organisation Goenkarancho Ekvot, Jeetendra Shikerkar’s award-winning 2013 film Mortoo, a black comedy about a villager who comes up with a unique cremation insurance scheme, will be screened on Friday and Dnyanesh Moghe’s 2012 movie Digant about the effects of modern living on the rural Dhangar community, will be shown on Sunday. A pair of plays by college theatre groups will be staged as part of The Annual Old World Collegiate Theatre Festival. The Abhivyakti theatre group from Maitreyi College will present Uncivilised Daughters. Directed by Sana Thapa, the play raises questions about women, cultural conditioning and autonomy. Viraag by The Players from Kirori Mal College explores themes of distance and communication among people with no common language or culture.
