ART Avaaz Do at India International Centre
Arts orgnisation SAHMAT has put together this exhibition of political banners by over 400 artists and curators from Delhi and Mumbai including Atul Dodiya, Ram Rahman, Archana Hande, Jitish Kallat, Zasha Colah and Sumeshwar Sharma. The banners were made during the 2015 Times Lit Fest as a response to the government’s curbs on freedom of expression. A companion exhibition, Postcards for Gandhi, SAHMAT’s 1994 art project of postcards showing Gandhi made by 100 artists, will also be on display. See here for more information.

FILM Habitat Film Festival at Habitat World
Among the films from across the country that will be screened during the concluding weekend of India Habitat Centre’s festival are Nilanjan Datta’s feature The Head Hunter (2015), about a North-East Indian Wancho tribal who tries to save the forest he loves from the government’s plan to build a road through it (Friday, May 13); Ruchi Shrivastava and Sumit Khanna’s documentary The Man Who Dwarfed the Mountains (2015) on the life of environmental activist and Chipko movement founder Chandi Prasad Bhatt (Saturday, May 14) and Om Raut’s Marathi movie Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush, in which a journalist tries to incorporate the values of the freedom fighter Bal Ganadhar Tilak in the changing political landscape of modern India (Sunday, May 15). THEATRE Saksham Theatre Festival 2016 at India Habitat Centre
The Delhi-based Hindi theatre group will stage three plays this weekend as part of their festival. On Friday, May 13, there will be a performance of Toba Tek Singh, which is based on Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto’s famous short story set in a Lahore mental asylum whose inmates are to be shifted either to India or Pakistan at the time of Partition depending on the person’s faith. MUSEUM EXHIBITION Threads of Continuity: Zoroastrian Life and Culture at the National Museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art
The Ministry of Minority Affairs is hosting three exhibitions on the history, culture and impact of the Parsi community in India. An exhibition on Zoroastrianism at the National Museum takes visitors through the history of the community from the emergence of the religion in Iran to its journey to the west coast of India. "Painted Encounters: Parsi Traders and the Community" at the National Gallery of Modern Art is an exhibition of engravings, paintings and photographs that traces how Parsi ship builders and businessmen established trade with Canton in the nineteenth century. "No Parsi is an Island", also at the NGMA, is a show of the works of 14 Parsi artists such as Pestonji Bomanji and Gieve Patel over the last 150 years. Entry to the NGMA is free. Tickets to the National Museum are priced at Rs 20 per head for Indians and Rs 650 per head (inclusive of the audio tour) for foreigners.
