PHOTOGRAPHY Figures in Time: Bourne & Shepherd at Exhibit 320
As part of its tenth anniversary celebrations, Bangalore-based photography organisation Tasveer is presenting an exhibition of portraits and landscapes by nineteenth-century English photographers Samuel Bourne and Charles Shepherd. The duo ran the Bourne and Shepherd photo studio in Calcutta and were known for the images of India they took in the second half of the nineteenth century. ART Contemporary Japanese Posters – Part 2 at the Japan Foundation

DANCE FILM Léo Delibes: Coppélia at India International Centre
As part of Summer Sonata, a festival of opera and ballet films, Russian ballet company Kirov Ballet’s production of seventeenth-century French composer Léo Delibes’s Coppélia will be screened. The ballet is based on two short stories by Prussian Romantic writer ETA Hoffmann and tells the tale of Franz, a village boy so obsessed with a life-size doll, he ignores his love interest Swanhilde. THEATRE Prithvi at the American Centre
To mark Environment Month, NGO Swechha will present a Hinglish adaptation of American playwright Karen Malpede’s drama Extreme Whether. The production, directed by Kuljeet Singh of the Atelier theatre group, is about a climate scientist at the centre of a family feud. Entry is free and requires you to carry a photo ID. FILM Dying at a Hospital at the Japan Foundation

FILM European Union Film Festival at the British Council
The three week-long festival of films from 24 EU countries, organised by the delegation of the European Union to India, will continue at locations across the city through the month of June. This weekend, there will be three screenings at Instituto Cervantes: Sylvain Chomet’s 2010 French-Scottish animated comedy The Illusionist/L’Illusionniste (Friday at 6.30 pm); Ruan Magan’s 2016 Irish documentary 1916 The Irish Rebellion narrated by actor Liam Neeson (Saturday at 6.30 pm); and Roel Reine’s 2015 Dutch movie Admiral/Michiel de Ruyter (Sunday at 4.30 pm). FILM A Better Place at India Habitat Centre

ART The Garden Underground at Jor Bagh Metro Station
Three photographers are exhibiting images of gardens inside the metro station: Tom Clancy, a lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire in the UK, explores the history of the human-plant relationship in his photographs; Bangalore-based environmental photographer Arati Kumar-Rao’s works capture the unique desert garden around the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur; and Delhi travel photographer Juhi Saklani’s set focuses on labourers who work in public gardens.
