FILM Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the British Council
The 1968 musical directed by Ken Hughes and written by Roald Dahl will be screened as part of the British Council’s 20 Films 20 Weeks programme celebrating British cinema. DANCE MUSIC THEATRE The Park’s New Festival at the NCPA Experimental Theatre, G5A and Sitara Studio
The tenth edition of the annual festival organisation by Chennai-based arts organisation Prakriti Foundation will feature three performances. Manipuri dancer Surjit Nongmeikapam will stage Nerves, a piece of contemporary choreography on Friday at the National Centre for the Performing Arts’ Experimental Theatre. Norwegian jazz-fusion band the Lelo Nika Trio, led by Serbian-Romanian accordion player Lelo Nika, will perform with Chennai-based Indian classical music flautist Shashank Subramanyam on Saturday at the G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture. Theatre actor Yuki Ellias will perform the solo act Elephant in the Room on Sunday at Sitara Studio. The performance is about a young boy who has been given the head of an elephant. In addition to having lunch, attendees can shop for fruits, veggies and handicrafts at a mini flea market, take a guided tour of the farms and stay on for a Warli painting workshop. While Madhubani in north Bihar is considered art, her community doesn’t consider its skill of weaving bamboo as equally worthwhile.
