Following hours of rain on Thursday evening, parts of Chennai and coastal Tamil Nadu were water-logged mid-morning on Friday, causing enormous traffic jams. For the fourth consecutive day on Friday, schools and colleges stayed shut in much of the state.

As the downpour subsided on Friday morning, the angry rants and wisecracks on Twitter did not.

Drawing parallels between the Chennai floods of December 2015, many people fumed at the government for inaction and the bad state of the roads.

But there were a few laughs too.
