While the match provided a thrilling end, so did the post-match press conference with Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan:

Journalist: “Did you really try not to play after the rain?”

Shakib: “Do we have any option?”

Journalist: “No, that’s the reason. Did you try to convince them?”

Shakib: “Convince whom?”

Journalist: “Umpires and Rohit Sharma...”

Shakib: “Do I have ability to convince the umpire?”

Journalist: “Accha. Then you were discussing the rivers of Bangladesh?”

Shakib: ....

Journalist: “Did you discuss something about the rivers in Bangladesh or something? What were you talking!?? Can you kindly explain?”

Shakib: “OK now you are asking the right question. Umpire called both the captains and told us the targets, how many overs remaining, playing rules...”

Journalist: “That’s all, and you all accepted it?”

Shakib: “Yes”

Journalist: “Beautiful, thank you”

Another last-over thriller that India are involved in, phew. A great game and India emerge victorious but that was some effort from Bangladesh. Starting from Liton Das to Taskin Ahmed, they nearly pulled it off. India are very, very close to the semi-final spot and pulled off some moments of magic in the field, along with the bowling effort from Shami, Arshdeep and Hardik after the rain break. However, India have to be wary about the way Kohli kept losing partners on the other end and the way they allowed Litton to inflict the carnage with the ball.

Player of the Match Virat Kohli: Pretty close game. Not as close as we would have liked it to be. A good day with the bat. When I went in there was a bit of pressure. I didn’t want to let a few mistakes to curb my instincts. I am in a happy place. I don’t want to compare it with the past.

As soon as I knew the World Cup is in Australia, I was grinning from ear to ear because I knew good cricketing shots will be the key here. I knew the kind of experience and game awareness of having played in Australia will come in handy for the team. I always back myself through to hitting through the line in every format. It is just an extension for me. I love playing at this ground. This makes me feel at home. When I come to Adelaide, I am meant to enjoy myself and keep batting.

INDIA WIN BY 5 RUNS! (DLS)

15.6: Nurul on strike. Arshdeep....gets it full enough and Nurul can’t get underneath it fully enough. Arshdeep celebrates with his arms apart. INDIA WIN BY 5 RUNS! (DLS)

15.5: Quick huddle. India take their time. 7 off 1. Ball being wiped. Wet ball will make it tough for a yorker too.

15.5: Wow! Sliced away past point for four. IT was full enough but Nurul had moved across, deep in the crease. Lovely shot that. Rohit applauds, the ball was alright. 7 off 1, 6 for a Super Over.

15.4: With another nice full ball, Arshdeep prevents a boundary. But he should have been at the non-striker’s end to gather the ball. Easy run out chance goes missing. That’s a silly error. 11 off 2 now, Nurul on strike.

15.3: Where’s Arshdeep going to go? Good full ball now. That intangible called character. This kid’s got it. Dot ball. 13 off 3.

You could sense the silence (relatively) through the television.

15.2: India taking their time with the fields. Nurul on strike. Rohit and Arshdeep in no rush. But it is a six over square leg! Hands on head for Rohit. 13 off 4.

15.1: Inside edge, close to the stumps but another day could have been four. Single only. 19 off 5.

Arshdeep Singh to bowl.

Bangladesh need 20 runs in 6 balls. Stop biting your nails!

BAN 131/6 (15 overs): Oops! India and penultimate overs, total ‘19th over’ feels. Taskin starts the over with a hard drill over extra cover and follows it up with a well connected six over mid wicket. It’s game on!

BAN 120/6 (14 overs): Slightly expensive this time from Arshdeep as Nurul Hasan lofted a boundary in the very first delivery. 12 runs off the over.

WICKET! 12.5: Mosaddek Hossain 6(3) b Hardik Pandya, Bangladesh 108/6 A T20 World Cup game against Bangladesh and Hardik joins in. Terrific over. Built on the pressure Arshdeep and Shami built and capitalised on it. Mosaddek’s outside edge clips the off-stump.

WICKET! 12.2: Yasir Ali 1(3) ct Arshdeep Singh b Hardik Pandya, Bangladesh 102/5 So, the question has been answered... whose plans would be disrupted after the rain break? Bangladesh have properly tumbled since then. The classic skiddy short-ball from Hardik and Arshdeep with the catch in the deep.

BAN 101/4 (12 overs): Excellent over from Arshdeep! Two wickets and just two runs conceded. It’s this over and Shami’s over earlier that truly pulled things back for India. Now about preventing a late cameo.

WICKET! 11.5: Shakib Al Hasan 13(12) ct Deepak Hooda (Sub) b Arshdeep Singh, Bangladesh 100/4 Arshdeep Singh! Remember the name. What an over it’s turning out to be. The Bangladesh skipper goes for a big hit over the leg-side only to find Deepak Hooda well positioned to take that cleanly.

WICKET! 11.1: Afif Hossain Dhrubo 3(5) ct Suryakumar Yadav b Arshdeep Singh, Bangladesh 99/3 Arshdeep strikes in his first ball since the rain break. The batter mishits an attempted straighter one and Suryakumar, again at long on, safely pouches it.

BAN 99/2 (11 overs): 11 runs off that over from Ashwin. Shakib pounces on two back-to-back deliveries for boundaries. Ashwin also leaks two wides after that. Pressure, pressure but one expects more from a senior bowler.

BAN 88/2 (10 overs): Great over from Shami. The wicket and just four runs off it.

WICKET! 9.1: Najmul Hossain Shanto 21(25) ct Suryakumar Yadav b Mohammad Shami, Bangladesh 84/2 Just what India needed. Two quick wickets after the rain break and is this where the wheels come off? Still a long way to go for Bangladesh, plenty of batters left but India look determined at the moment. Ecstatic celebrations from Suryakumar who was stationed at long on.

BAN 84/1 (9 overs): Shanto has understood the assignment. He’s looking more free and it shows in that swing off the top-edge over the fielder for six. 10 runs off the Pandya over.

BAN 74/1 (8 overs): Liton has departed and now it is upto Shanto to make it count. He did not have to contribute much during the powerplay but now’s the time to go all in. Brings up a a boundary over extra cover in Ashwin’s over. Total 8 runs off it.

WICKET! 7.2: Liton Das 60(27) Run Out K L Rahul, Bangladesh 68/1 Oh, the drama. Second delivery of the over and a brilliant effort from KL Rahul in the end brings an end to the fantastic innings by Liton Das. Uff! Have to feel for Liton but it’s not over for Bangladesh yet.

4:50 PM: The batters are back in the middle for Bangladesh. Ashwin to continue.

Will the wet outfield, moist conditions hamper Bangladesh’s tempo or further disrupt India’s bowling plans?

Play to resume at 450 pm IST. 16 over run-chase, target 151. Bangladesh need 85 off 9 overs.

Quick scenario update: India play Zimbabwe on the final day of group stage action immediately after Bangladesh take on Pakistan at Adelaide Oval. If SA defeat NED (they will have qualified) and then lose vs PAK before that, IND will want PAK to defeat BAN and then NRR comes into play.

The rain is here. Bangladesh are comfortably 17 runs ahead on DLS. If the play comes back on, it could end up disrupting Litton’s flow but India would like to re-group and formulate some plans for the assault the Bangladesh opener.

BAN 66/0 (7 overs): Spin is introduced now and Axar Patel bowls a relatively quiet over with just 6 runs off that over. Been a while since India did not concede a boundary!

BAN 60/0 (6 overs): This is the highest powerplay score against India in the ongoing World Cup. Thanks to Litton Das, who has scored 56 runs out of the 60. Two boundaries and a six in that over and India have no answers for Litton Das’ carnage at the moment.

Just to spice things up, rain is still around the corner and Bangladesh have their nose ahead in the DLS.

FIFTY for Litton Das!

The opener is putting on a show here. In just 21-balls, he brings up the second fastest fifty by a Bangladesh batter in men’s T20Is. What a knock and what an occasion to get it.

BAN 44/0 (5 overs): A scoop over fine-leg for six earlier and Litton continues to strike at 215 and has raced to 41 off just 19 deliveries! Just 9 runs off that over but the way he has put the pressure on India has been mind-blowing.

BAN 35/0 (4 overs): Shami pulls things back as he concedes no boundaries. Just 5 runs off that over. While Litton has taken the charge, Shanto must find a way to get going.

BAN 30/0 (3 overs): Oh, Litton Das! He’s up for a challenge, isn’t he? What a start he has given Bangladesh. First, put the pressure on Arshdeep and now against a much senior Bhuvneshwar. A six over deep midwicket, a four over mid off and another between short third man and slip. 16 runs off that over.

BAN 14/0 (2 overs): Three boundaries off Litton Das in that over against Arshdeep, a rather expensive over as Bangladesh score 12 runs off it. The fifth delivery, an inswinger, needed intervention from the third umpires as DK believed it to be out. But it seemed to have bounced.

BAN 2/0 (1 over): Expect exactly these kind of quiet overs from Bhuvneshwar Kumar up front. Economical. 2 runs off it.

And the chase begins!

Shanto and Litton Das are at the crease for Bangladesh. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to open the attack for India.

End of India innings: KL Rahul showed signs of return to his potential best and Suryakumar’s 30-run cameo was classical and entertaining as ever but it was Virat Kohli’s show yet again. He started strongly this time around and paced the innings beautifully to finish with an unbeaten 44-ball 64, despite losing partners on the other end. India finish with a 184 runs. Taskin Ahmed bowled a phenomenal spell but ended up wicketless while Hasan Mahmud finished with a 3-fer.

India 184/6 (20 overs): R Ashwin hoped to give the strike to Kohli but with that not working out, he figured... why not do it yourself?! He takes on the back of the length delivery and deposited it with a pull over square leg for six. That wasn’t it though, he followed it up with a punch over cover for four. A great over by Shoriful, nonetheless... 14 runs off the final over. India finish with 184!

India 170/6 (19 overs): Wow, Virat Kohli! 13 runs off the over. Courtesy that boundary over square leg followed by the punishment he handed out for the half-volley, clearing it for a six over long-on with great ease.

WICKET! 18.1: Axar Patel 7(6) ct Shakib Al Hasan b Hasan Mahmud, India 157/6 Kohli’s partners just can’t stay here but Bangladesh pulling things back in the death is making this interesting. Change of pace from Hasan and Axar is caught by Shakib at cover.

India 150/5 (18 overs): A good but unlucky over from Mustafizur. He did concede the boundary in the first ball with Axar starting the proceedings. He is also dropped later on the fifth delivery. However, just 7 runs off it. Bangladesh reigning in the final flourish.

WICKET! 16.6: Dinesh Karthik 7(5) Run Out Shakib Al Hasan, India 150/5 Dinesh Karthik rather unlucky here. A mix-up between him and Kohli and he is run out. Almost looked like the bails did not come off at that moment...

FIFTY for Virat Kohli!

What a tournament King Kohli is having. Three consecutive half-centuries in the tournament, he has been the batter India can hundred percent rely on in each game so far.

India 140/4 (16 overs): Hasan Mahmud has two wickets to show but has had an expensive outing here. The Indian batters are clearly planning to take him on. 10 runs off the over, this time. Kohli pulls one behind square for a boundary and Hasan also concedes a no-ball. Some discussion between Shakib and Kohli regarding that no-ball but it is all in good spirit.

WICKET! 15.1: Hardik Pandya 5(6) ct Yasir Ali b Hasan Mahmud, India 130/4 A nothing shot from Hardik Pandya who is caught at backward point. A tad bit casual there?

India 130/3 (15 overs): The over was going alright for Mustafizur who kept varying between shorter and back of the length deliveries. Kohli, however, slogged the penultimate delivery of the over for a boundary and then drove one over mid-on for another. 11 runs off the over.

India 119/3 (14 overs): A fine over from Shakib. Four runs and a wicket off it.

WICKET! 13.3: Suryakumar Yadav 30(16) b Shakib Al Hasan, India 116/3 Ah, a shame... Suryakumar was putting on a show! But captain Shakib gets the much-needed breakthrough with a lovely delivery that gets his off stump.

India 115/2 (13 overs): Suryakumar Yadav doing Suryakumar Yadav things. Sigh. Fifteen deliveries faced, 30 runs scored. Striking at over 200, he has gotten in three boundaries - a cover drive, a shimmy down and another drive over cover, and finally, one over backward point. Cherry on the top. 14 runs off Mahmud.

India 101/2 (12 overs): Another boundary less over but more than enough for India to keep the scoreboard ticking and the run-rate up. 9 runs off the over.

India 92/2 (11 overs): Relatively quiet over from India as Mustafiz concedes no boundaries. Just 6 runs off it.

India 86/2 (10 overs): Rahul departed after a fine 32-ball half-century and with that comes the arrival of Suryakumar Yadav, who likes to start in strong fashion. He slashed one for four in the final delivery to get his first boundary. Halfway through the innings and India can afford to explode early on.

WICKET! 9.2: K L Rahul 50(32) ct Mustafizur Rahman b Shakib Al Hasan, India 78/2 Rahul was looking to continue the onslaught after his fifty but he ends up top-edging it for short fine.

FIFTY for KL Rahul! A lot of talk about having to deliver after a string of low scores but like Rahul Dravid said, he is just one good knock away. Rahul needed this. Can he continue this for the rest of the tournament now?

India 76/1 (9 overs): What an over for India! 24 runs off it. Shoriful Islam has been taken on by Rahul here. Kohli started the over with a drives down the ground for a four. Rahul then topped it all up with three sixes and a four later. A six over long on, another over long on and another over deep point.

India 52/1 (8 overs): In his first over, Shakib is not able to create a lot of pressure. The lengths are not threatening and the Indian batters easily navigate them for few singles. Rahul also pulls one to deep midwicket for four. 10 runs off the over.

Stat alert: Meanwhile, Virat Kohli becomes the leading run-scorer in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history.

India 42/1 (7 overs): Bangladesh decided to bowl out Taskin Ahmed. A bold move. A boundary-less over and he finishes with brilliant numbers 4-0-15-0 but it’s unfortunate that he has been wicketless.

India 37/1 (6 overs): That is the most runs India have scored in the powerplay. Interesting stuff because Rahul finally looks like he wants to have a go and Kohli has come with the intent for a quick start. Earlier in the over, Kohli sneaked in another boundary, simply by opening the face of the bat and it managed to go past the slip fielder again.

India 22/1 (5 overs): Oh, Virat Kohli is pumped up! Starts proceedings with a drive over a cover for a four and follows it up with one over the slip fielder for a four. Almost releases the pressure Taskin had built in his previous two overs.

India 22/1 (4 overs): A wicket in that over but Rahul decides it’s time to take Hasan on. He first slashed one to third man for four and then followed it up with a six over cover. Good comeback in this over by India, at least the momentum wasn’t taken away.

WICKET! 3.2: Rohit Sharma 2(8) ct Yasir Ali b Hasan Mahmud, India 11/1 Hasan Mahmud dropped him earlier and he is the one who also dismisses him. Relief for the bowler, truly. Rohit simply did not have enough power on that shot and is caught at gully.

India 11/0 (3 overs): Top over by Taskin again. Quite unlucky too. He almost had Rohit, who was dropped by Hasan Mahmud at fine leg. Just one run off the over.

India 10/0 (2 overs): The pressure was building on and while there was a no-ball on offer, India did not capitalise on that either. However, Rahul released the pressure in the fifth delivery and picked up the back of the length delivery for a massive six.

India 1/0 (1 over): A good start for Bangladesh, just the solitary run conceded. Rahul looking nervy as usual. Shakib at the toss mentioned that they were looking to bowl with the overcast conditions but the swing on offer is pretty moderate at the moment.

1:35 PM: A lot of talk about KL Rahul ahead of this encounter. Rahul Dravid’s pre-match press conference was largely dependent on answers about him. After scores of 4, 9, 9, he needs a good start here and in the tournament, quite literally.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are in the middle. Taskin Ahmed to open the attack for Bangladesh.

The national anthems for both the teams is underway.

1:20 PM: 10 minutes for play to start but the rain has made an appearance at Adelaide.

Team news: One change each for India and Bangladesh.

India Playing XI: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik(w), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh

Bangladesh Playing XI: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, Mosaddek Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Nurul Hasan(w), Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed

TOSS: Bangladesh win the toss and opt to field first.

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Group 2 match between India and Bangladesh in Adelaide.

India are coming off a five-wicket defeat against South Africa, while Bangladesh are coming off a thrilling 3-run win over Zimbabwe. India’s 10-1 head to head record against Bangladesh is sure to inspire them with the confidence they need to bounce back and get back to winning ways. But, a win here is especially crucial as it will strengthen their bid for the coveted semifinal spot. Bangladesh, meanwhile, are tied on points with India and are very much in the race despite their poor run-rate. Shakib al Hasan might have underplayed their ambitions, but this will be another test as we have seen often this World Cup, weather permitting.
