Moeen Ali’s heroics saved England the blushes in the fourth Test against Pakistan at the Oval on Thursday. Ali once again demonstrated his pedigree as the all-rounder hit a crucial 108 - his third Test hundred - to rescue his side from a top-order collapse.
Ali’s century led an England recovery from 110/5 to 328 all out on a fascinating first day in London. Sohail Khan was Pakistan's stand-out wicket-taker, finishing with figures of 5/68. Wahab Riaz also chipped in with three wickets.
However, at the end of day’s play, Pakistan lost a wicket in the second over as Sami Aslam was dismissed leg before wicket by Stuart Broad. Pakistan ended the day at 3/1.
Brief scores: Pakistan 3/1 trail England 328 all out (Moeen Ali 108, Jonny Bairstow 55, Sohail Khan 5/68) by 325 runs
