Dattu Bhokanal didn't get a medal, but still managed to be India's best Olympic rower, finishing 13th in the men's single sculls ranking round on Saturday. Bhokanal finished first in Final C with a time of 6:54.96. The rower qualified for Final C after finishing second in the semifinal on Friday.
The 25-year-old, who is competing in his maiden Olympics, was fighting for a world ranking between 13 and 18. Bhokanal was already out of contention for a medal despite finishing an impressive fourth in the quarter-final.
Here, the first-time Olympian comfortably managed to improve on his previous effort, and created an Olympic record for India in rowing as well, going past Sawarn Singh, who had finished 16th in London 2012.
