Diego Costa grabbed a late winner, one minute from the end of time, to give Chelsea three points as the Blues beat West Ham 2-1 in Antonio Conte's first game in charge at Stamford Bridge.

After a cagey first half in which neither team showed significant attacking prowess, the second half started with Chelsea attacking the West Ham goal.

A moment of madness from Michail Antonio followed as the West Ham full-back brought Cesar Azpilicueta down in the box and referee Anthony Taylor had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Belgian Eden Hazard, who had taken 27 games last season to open his account in the league, made no mistake with the penalty as he shot high into the roof of the net, giving the Hammers keeper Adrian no chance.

Dimitri Payet, West Ham's talisman last year, was brought on with only 25 minutes to go, perhaps in deference to a rigorous summer with France en route to the Euro final. His corner ten minutes later created some confusion in the Chelsea box and defender James Collins was on hand to drill the ball past Thibaut Courtois and level the scores.

Just when West Ham and Bilic thought that they had done enough for a point, Costa had other ideas as his shot from outside the box evaded Adrian and nestled in a corner of the net to send the Stamford Bridge faithful into raptures and seal a win for Conte on his first outing for Chelsea.
