India's Saketh Myneni defeated Serbia's Pedja Krstin 6-3 6-0 in the third round of qualifying to qualify for the men's singles main draw in the US Open in New York on Friday. This is the first time that the 28-year-old, ranked 143rd in the world in the singles rankings, has qualified for the men's singles draw in a Grand Slam.
Myneni defeated France's Albano Olivetti 6-3 7-5 in the first qualifying round and then went on to defeat the United States' Mitchell Krueger 7-6 6-4 in the second round. His comprehensive dismantling of Krstin in just 56 minutes in the third qualifying round meant Myneni booked a place for himself in the first round proper at Flushing Meadows.
The 28-year-old from Andhra Pradesh is currently India's highest ranked men's singles player.
