The big news
Football returned to Mumbai's Andheri Sports Complex after a gap of 61 years and the Indian fans rubbed their eyes in disbelief as the national team cruised to a commanding 4-1 win against higher-ranked Puerto Rico.
Jackichand Singh gave away a penalty as early as the seventh minute of the game, and the visitors calmly converted it through Emmanuel Sanchez. However, India came back into the game within a blink of an eye, as chances came thick and fast.
Sunil Chettri might have handed the captain's armband to goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, but he continued to be a potent force in the opposition's box. Chhetri curled a free-kick into the left post and Narayan Das bundled the rebound into the net to level the score.
Chettri got another crack at goal from a free-kick from 25 yards out. This time, the woodwork helped the ball into the net and India were in the lead. Jeje Lalpekhlua netted the third, and the Mizoram striker could have had a hat-trick to his name on a different day. Jackichand Singh got the fourth goal for India.
