Ajay Jayaram crashed out of the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold as he was comfortably beaten by China's Yuqi Shi 12-21, 10-21 in the quarter-finals in Jakarta on Friday. With Jayaram's exit, the Indian challenge at this tournament comes to an end.

Jayaram had beaten local boy Reksy Aureza Megananda 18-21, 21-12, 21-19 on Thursday, making a strong comeback after losing the first game to book a place in the last eight. The third-seeded Indian shuttler had earlier registered a thumping win against compatriot Parupalli Kashyap 21-7, 21-12 in a contest that lasted just 27 minutes.

HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth, the other Indians who were a part of the event, bowed out on Thursday. The former's loss in particular, came as a bit of a shock as he lost to China's Huang Yuxiang, ranked 44th in the world.
